Re-Entry and Community Engagement Specialist
ROLE
We need an experienced Reentry & Community Engagement Specialist at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (USAO EDPA). The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania enforces federal criminal and civil laws that protect the life, liberty, and property of citizens. With a principal office in downtown Philadelphia, it is one of the largest districts in the United States, covering a nine-county area in southern Pennsylvania with a population of 5.2 million people. In this role, you will be part of a well-respected team that is responsible for community engagement and outreach that promotes public safety and builds trust with citizens in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and you will support a variety of prevention, intervention, and reentry programs essential to the goals of the Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in building and maintaining relationships with law enforcement agencies, nonprofit entities, schools, and advocacy organizations for the purpose of facilitating violence prevention, reentry, education, and intervention programs.
- Supports the work of the Reentry unit within the Office of Public Affairs and External Engagement, assisting individuals returning home from prison to the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
- Assists with case management support for participants and graduates of the Eastern District's Problem-Solving Courts.
- Creates and disseminates educational resources to parents, youth, schools, law enforcement, and the community at-large.
- Organizes events and services designed to prevent individuals from entering the criminal justice system.
- Supports existing and initiates new school-based violence prevention and intervention programs.
- Conducts general outreach, fields community inquiries, and surveys the needs of the public through community stakeholder meetings.
- Promotes virtual and in person events, in partnership with community stakeholders, ensuring robust attendance.
- Evaluates virtual and in person events with attendee post event surveys to improve presentation content and delivery methods and coordinates appropriate post-event follow up.
- Collects and manages data and resources for prevention, reentry, and community engagement activities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in human services related field (including, but not limited to, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Education, and Criminal Justice)
- At least two years of specialized experience working in the field of juvenile justice, criminal justice, or social work
- Experience working with social service delivery through community-based, nonprofit, educational organizations, or government agencies
- Strong ability to meet deadlines and multitask.
- Excellent ability to plan, convene, and manage in-person and virtual events.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team comprised of a diverse group ofcriminal justice and community stakeholders.
- Must interact appropriately, demonstrate sensitivity to vulnerable populations, exercise goodjudgment, and establish rapport with community members and law enforcement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
LOCATION

- Most duties are local to Philadelphia and the surrounding counties
- This position requires daily local travel as well as up to 1 – 5 days of distance travel per month
