ROLE
We need an experienced Paralegal Specialist to support the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Departmental Appeals Board (DAB). The DAB adjudicates Medicare appeals and other administrative cases requiring certified records and accurate case documentation. In this role, you will review and prepare acknowledgment orders, manage case entry and updates in the Electronic Case Tracking and E-Filing systems, and maintain Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) case files. You will also process mail and outgoing decisions, coordinate requests for court reporters, and assist with filing and administrative reporting. This is a full-time opportunity. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews and prepares acknowledgment orders for new appeals
- Enters new appeals and updates existing cases in the Electronic Case Tracking and E-Filing systems
- Creates and maintains Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) case files in accordance with procedural requirements
- Requests court reporters and coordinates scheduling as needed
- Processes incoming and outgoing mail, including “Ready-To-Go” decisions
- Performs routine administrative filing of case-related materials
- Prepares and submits weekly administrative reports summarizing case activity and status
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Ability to analyze issues and apply laws and regulations to facts presented
- Experience typing and formatting correspondence and legal forms
- Proficient in operating a personal computer
- Experience with various Word Processing software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Pro
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or one year of experience in applying laws and regulations to facts presented

- U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass background investigation to handle sensitive information
- May be subject to HSPD-12 credentialing requirements
