The USAO DMN prosecutes and defends criminal and civil cases on behalf of the federal government. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation options and performs information system analysis and installation in support of casework
- Develops project management tools and strategies in collaboration with AUSAs, agents, and legal staff for managing case information
- Recommends software tools and procedures to support data processing, document management, and evidence presentation
- Defines and creates case databases for electronically stored information (ESI), case review, production, and trial presentation
- Organizes large volumes of case materials using applications such as LAW, Nuix, Eclipse, or Relativity
- Performs deduplication, indexing, quality control, and OCR processing for litigation databases
- Prepares demonstrative exhibits and trial presentations, and coordinates trial presentation equipment setup
- Installs, configures, maintains, and evaluates litigation support equipment and technology
- Assists in hardware/software troubleshooting, performance optimization, and equipment inventory
- Analyzes and recommends improvements to litigation support systems and procedures
- Customizes databases, resolves system issues, and ensures indexing consistency for efficient document retrieval
- Evaluates new developments in legal technology and recommends upgrades or new tools
- Applies advanced IT, legal, and project management knowledge to support complex litigation support operations
- Provides technical leadership, develops training materials, and may represent the office in inter-agency collaboration
- Conducts cost-benefit analyses and testing of litigation systems and ensures alignment with case needs
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the legal process and familiarity with both civil and criminal law at the federal and local level, including discovery obligations and the role of IT specialists in resolving discovery issues
- Ability to communicate with attorneys, understand case details, and recommend data management and presentation strategies
- Knowledge of and skill in applying IT and litigation support (LS) concepts, eDiscovery technology, visual design and imaging tools, performance measurement techniques, and systems testing methods
- Understanding of IT/LS security, requirements analysis, and internet technologies relevant to litigation support systems
- Familiarity with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, budgeting, and cost-benefit analysis
- Awareness of emerging information technologies and industry trends
- Ability to apply analytical methods, project management principles, and effective oral and written communication techniques

- Associates degree or higher in related field - preferred
