Fact Witness Coordinator
ROLE
We need an experienced Fact Witness Coordinator at USAO EDVA (U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Virginia). The office prosecutes and defends cases on behalf of the federal government, and Victim-Witness personnel play an integral role in facilitating the participation and cooperation of victims and witnesses throughout the federal judicial system while affording rights and providing services under the Crime Victims' Rights Act. In this role, you will assist victims by identifying resources and referrals, help AUSAs locate and prepare witnesses for testimony, provide in-court support during hearings and trials, and keep victims informed of case developments and their rights throughout the prosecution. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assesses victims' immediate needs and provides referrals to crime victims and their families
  • Assists AUSAs in locating victims and assessing their ability to testify
  • Aids in preparing victims to deliver testimony and prepares victim impact statements
  • Provides in-court support during hearings and trials, including courtroom orientation and locating safe waiting areas
  • Assesses safety concerns and aids in victim safety planning
  • Informs victims of their rights and keeps them updated on significant case events
  • Assists victims with restitution applications and required documentation
  • Develops and maintains relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement and social service organizations
  • Conducts community outreach, workshops, and victim assistance presentations
  • Provides clerical support, including word processing, data entry, and case file management
  • Prepares weekly activity reports detailing tasks completed and program related activities

BACKGROUND/REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient in word processing and data entry/retrieval
  • Ability to review, analyze, and assure accuracy of data from multiple sources
  • Ability to establish and maintain case/project files and enter/retrieve data from databases
  • Ability to prepare, format, and correct management reports and correspondence
  • Ability to schedule appointments and respond to case-related inquiries, including coordinating with outside agencies
  • Ability to prepare and deliver weekly activity reports
  • Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, USAO computer systems

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; undergraduate degree preferred

LOCATION
  • 2100 Jamieson Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22314 (On-site required)

CLEARANCE
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

CLIENT
  • Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Virginia

HOURS
  • 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday
  • 8 hours per working day; core hours 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM local time

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION
  • Employment Classification Eligibility – W2

RELOCATION
  • Not eligible for relocation benefits

COMPENSATION
  • Base Hourly Wage: $24.65 per hour
  • Health & Welfare (Benefits rate): $5.09 per hour
  • Total Hourly Compensation: $29.74 per hour
  • Benefits: Health & Welfare benefits contribution as required under the Service Contract Act (SCA); Benefits package includes options for health, dental and vision insurance coverage

Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
