ROLE
We need an experienced Data Engineer at the IRS ISS program. The Infrastructure Shared Services (ISS) contract provides enterprise-wide IT solutions, including engineering, development, integration, and operations across IRS platforms and cloud environments. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize large-scale data pipelines, models, and transformation logic to support IRS systems such as the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP). You will lead efforts to modernize legacy data stores into cloud-native architectures, integrate with BI and reporting tools, and ensure compliance with governance and security requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, develop, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines across IRS data platforms.
Build and maintain data models, data lakes, and data warehouses (Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
Support the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) with data engineering, metadata management, and governance practices (Informatica EDC, Axon, DPM).
Lead efforts to modernize legacy mainframe-based data stores (VSAM, QSAM) into relational and NoSQL environments.
Develop XML/JSON schemas and record layouts for electronic intake of tax forms and schedules.
Implement unified APIs and support ontology and data dictionary development across IMF, CADE2, BMF, and other IRS data sources.
Provide data lineage mapping and metadata documentation to support IRS modernization and auditability.
Implement data quality checks, reconciliation processes, and error correction.
Ensure compliance with data encryption, lifecycle management, and regulatory standards.
Support business intelligence and reporting platforms (Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects) with data feeds and semantic models.
Perform data validation, defect triage, and technical support for filing season database conversions (CADE2, CADE2 ODS).
Provide technical guidance and best practices to IRS stakeholders on data usage.
Collaborate with compliance and tax processing systems to provide cross-taxpayer analytical data extracts.
Maintain technical documentation for pipelines, workflows, and schemas for knowledge transfer.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
7+ years of relevant hands-on experience in leading and implementing government contract programs.
Demonstrated hands-on coding experience.
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Demonstrated success leading cross-functional technical teams.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Math, Engineering, or Information Systems (required).
Databricks and/or Palantir certification – required
