ROLE
We need an experienced Middleware Engineer at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Middleware Services Branch (MSB). The MSB is leading critical infrastructure modernization initiatives as part of the IRS IT Modernization Plan and the Inflation Reduction Act Strategic Operating Plan. In this role, you will support the Enterprise Application Integration Broker (EAIB) by managing system certificates, triaging and resolving incidents, mitigating security vulnerabilities, performing post-maintenance health checks, and coordinating technical integration efforts across complex environments. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform renewal and management of security certificates for EAIB servers, including Java Messaging Service (JMS) servers, Universal Messaging servers, and IS Adapters.
- Triage P1–P4 incidents using EAIB operational guidance and decision trees; perform server, application, and database restarts and troubleshooting.
- Execute POA&M (Plan of Action and Milestones) creation, updates, and mitigation of security vulnerabilities; apply required patches and obtain cybersecurity clearance and verification.
- Perform post-maintenance health checks following OS, database, and MQ patching cycles; validate service availability and system performance.
- Monitor MQ connectivity between EAIB and IBM mainframe; ensure messaging integrity across integration layers.
- Coordinate with EST to validate and clear EAIB queues in preparation for PETE and other scheduled testing events.
- Update credentials for JDBC Adapter, My webMethods Server (MWS), and Optimizer databases.
- Review and validate EAIB virtual machines (VMs) when alerted through daily health check notifications.
- Provide capacity planning, performance monitoring, and workload analysis in support of MSB infrastructure modernization and refresh initiatives.
- Conduct technical impact analysis of upstream and downstream system dependencies; recommend and communicate mitigation strategies.
- Manage traceability of integration activities across development, build, release, and verification schedules to functional requirements.
- Define and manage strategy for applying program management, testing, and development tools across the integration lifecycle.
- Provide technical integration oversight and coordination across multiple internal and external projects, particularly during testing phases.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have active IRS MBI Public Trust
- 5+ years experience in infrastructure support or middleware administration
- Familiarity with WebMethods
- Familiarity with Linux, Windows, and Solaris platforms
- Scripting or Automation experience (Ansible, Python, or Shell)
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in related field
