RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support in both file creation and preservation
- Utilize specialized knowledge of the processes, procedures, and practices in support of civil matters typically handled by a USAO
- Prepare initial draft of pleadings for review by Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA)
- Read and analyze written discovery and summarize for AUSAs
- Review and evaluate document production and summarize for AUSAs
- Support search for and identification of expert witnesses
- Evaluate expert discovery and reports and prepare initial impressions for AUSAs
- Prepare final pleadings and exhibits to be filed with the district court
- Conducts preliminary legal research in support of defensive and offensive civil claims
- Track and maintain court ordered and discovery deadlines
- Other relates duties as assigned and within scope
- Maintain lists, as needed to track status to allow for location and easy retrieval, if needed
Knowledge & Skills
- Two years of paralegal experience
- Possess strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Possess working knowledge and experience with Westlaw and LexisNexus
- Works and interacts professionally and effectively with all levels of staff
- Meets and communicates with people in a courteous and tactful manner
- Thrives in a deadline driven, high-pressure and high-volume environment
- Able to understand and respond to direction well
- Possess a specialized working knowledge of the processes, procedures, and practices of legal assistance activities in conjunction with a knowledge of clerical and administrative skills and an ability to apply these skills to increase the effectiveness of the assigned work
EDUCATION
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred

Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
