Data Scientist III ROLE We need an experienced Sr. Data Scientist at the Department of Justice Management Division (JMD). The Justice Management Division's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) supports the execution of DOJ component missions and improves efficiency and effectiveness of DOJ processes through world-class use of information technology. In this role, you will develop and maintain Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines integrating data from DOJ and interagency partner systems; conduct network analysis and build predictive models to supportHomeland Security Task Force (HSTF) investigative targeting and operational planning; produce performance reports and data visualizations for DOJ leadership, Congress, and partner agencies; and lead data quality audits, dashboard development, and system improvement initiatives. RESPONSIBILITIES
Acquire, clean, and merge data from DOJ MIS, FBI, DEA, HSI, ATF, IRS-CI, USAO, and other partner systems
Develop and maintain ETL pipelines for regular ingestion and transformation of interagency datasets
Maintain data dictionaries and ensure compliance with DOJ data standards
Conduct network analysis to identify high-value targets, facilitators, and financial flows within criminal enterprises
Build predictive models for investigative prioritization, case success probability, and data-based decision making
Develop consolidated HSTF performance reports with data visualizations, trend analysis, and anomaly identification for leadership review
Provide quarterly performance reports and ad-hoc statistical summaries to DOJ leadership, Congress, and partner agencies
Develop new metrics for impact assessment and return-on-investment analysis
Investigate alternative dashboard technologies and migrate existing Tableau dashboards if directed
Conduct quarterly MIS data quality audits and develop audit dashboards with remediation recommendations
Document schema, business rules, and transformation logic for transparency
Identify and propose system improvements, automation opportunities, and workflow optimizations
Support operational briefings with analytical products
Support transition in and transition out activities as directed
REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, statistics, or a related field - required
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
10+ years in applied data science or analytics roles
Proficiency in Excel, Python, R, and Tableau (or equivalent)
Experience with law enforcement or large statistical datasets
