ROLE
We need an experienced General Clerk at the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the Southern District of Texas (SDTX). The USAO SDTX is charged with enforcing federal criminal laws and representing the federal government in civil litigation. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages telephone calls and in-person visitors, notifies staff of arrivals or incoming communications, and monitors office access via CCTV and reception protocols
- Screens, sorts, and distributes incoming mail and packages
- Responds to inquiries by phone, email, or fax and refers them as appropriate
- Coordinates travel arrangements for witnesses and litigation staff
- Assists with new case processing including opening/closing cases in Caseview and assembling files
- Provides litigation support for Duty AUSAs and Legal Assistants on new arrests and notifications
- Updates legal staff on court docket changes and monitors court calendars for updates
- Files appeal documents in corresponding criminal case files
- Manages government vehicle keys, fuel cards, mileage logs, and receipts
- Assists with inventory, including the submission of excess property and annual records audits
- Drafts and prepares written documents using Microsoft Office applications from handwritten drafts, edited copies, or electronic files
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires skill in operating a computer to produce a wide range of documents, create spreadsheets, or access databases
- Must be able to apply judgment in conducting daily work, interaction with others, and taking initiative in planning tasks to be accomplished.
EDUCATION
- High school graduate or equivalent with courses in office methods and business
